WCHC Generates $100.5 Million in Local Economic Impact

Washington, Iowa – August 2026 – Washington County Hospital and Clinics (WCHC) continues to play a vital role in both the health and economic strength of Washington County. New data released as part of the Iowa Hospital Association’s annual economic impact and community benefit report shows WCHC generated $100.5 million in total expenditures, supported 660.8 jobs and contributed $47.4 million in wages in 2025.

WCHC’s impact represents 8.0% of Washington County’s gross domestic product, 7.6% of all jobs in the county and 10.6% of all wages, demonstrating the significant role local healthcare plays in the strength and vitality of the community.

“WCHC’s impact is about much more than the care provided within our walls,” said Todd Patterson, CEO of WCHC. “Our team members care for our friends and neighbors while also supporting local families, businesses and the overall strength of Washington County. These numbers demonstrate how important strong, local healthcare is to a thriving community.”

WCHC’s commitment to the community extends beyond its economic impact. In 2025, the organization delivered $2.4 million in community benefits and provided 5,000 encounters through community service programs. These efforts help address local health needs, improve access to care and support the overall well-being of the communities WCHC serves.

The report was compiled from hospital-submitted data to the American Hospital Association’s annual survey of hospitals. Statewide, Iowa hospitals provided more than $1.4 billion in community benefits, employed 146,616 individuals and provided more than $10.4 billion in wages. Hospital expenses accounted for more than $24.8 billion of Iowa’s gross domestic product.

“Every investment we make—whether in our people, programs, facilities or community partnerships—is an investment in the future of Washington County,” Patterson added. “Our promise of More Than You Expect reflects our commitment to being here for our community, both as a trusted healthcare provider and as a strong community partner.”

WCHC has served Washington County for more than a century and remains committed to providing high-quality healthcare close to home while strengthening the community it serves.
