For the past 12 years, friends Penny, Sue, and Lisa or “The Girls,” as they are commonly referred to, have never missed their annual mammogram appointment. That’s because they always go together —no matter what.
Their journey started when a close friend was diagnosed with breast cancer and passed away a year later. With the loss of their friend, the Girls made a commitment to each other to get their annual mammogram done together every year to ensure no one would miss an exam and to honor their friend.
When deciding where to get their mammogram done, The Girls didn’t hesitate to choose Washington County Hospital and Clinics in spite of options closer to home. “We love the small town feeling of WCHC,” says Penny. “It makes the visit much more personal and enjoyable.”
To make the trip something they can look forward to every year, The Girls make a weekend out of it. They have done camping trips, hotel stays, pulled the slots at the casino, and even had slumber parties at each other’s homes.
“WCHC is excellent and efficient; the appointment doesn’t take long at all,” says Sue, “we are in and out and then able to enjoy the rest of our girls weekend.”
Whether The Girls have a history of breast cancer or not, they know the importance of getting an annual mammogram and encourage everyone to get one.
“We love the staff at WCHC,” says Lisa, “they have the best, up to date technology and will make you feel extremely comfortable throughout the entire appointment. Family history of breast cancer has to start somewhere, so gather your girls and make your mammogram appointment today!”
