Living in Southeast Iowa
![]()
Washington County Hospital and Clinics is located in Washington, Iowa, a small but growing town of 7,424 residents. Located in
Southeast Iowa, our town is filled with nationally registered historical sites as well as vintage buildings that preserve Washington's history all the way back to its establishment in 1838. Despite its dated history, Washington has not failed to add numerous modern infrastructures, such as Washington's
schools,
public library, and many other facilities.
Washington is home to outstanding recreational opportunities, historical sites, festivities, educational opportunities, and modern healthcare options. Washington also offers over
40 restaurants and cafes, multiple local newspaper outlets,
local radio station, 20 churches, the oldest continually operating
cinema theater certified by Guinness World Records, and over 100 social and service clubs and organizations. The city of Washington has been nationally recognized as a "Main Street Community", whose downtown reflects the American feeling. Our downtown park with the centennial fountain is surrounded by a square filled with unique retail shops, professional offices, and service businesses.
Washington has something for everyone. With
parks, frisbee golf course, skate park, basketball courts, aquatic center, dog park and shelters, a 13-mile
Kewash Nature Trail for biking, hiking, and cross country skiing, there is always something to do. Washington also boasts the
Washington Community YMCA, which organizes adult and youth sports activities, senior center, weight rooms, and indoor pool with swim lessons.
